The first International Manhattan Steak House was opened in Helsinki Finland with success of filling its 200+ customer seats in year 1986.  Five years later the increase in demand for high quality healthy and sustainable meat required them to open again to satisfy the Finland consumers demand.  In 1997 they expanded to the city of Tampere and in 2001 to Lahti. Altogether they opened four steak houses today in Finland serving over 1200 customers daily.

Manhattan Steak House opened its’ first Asian outlet in Kelana Jaya lakeside on November 2010. It has 3 different ambiance floors with a total seating capacity of 168 customers. Manhattan concept is to serve highest quality and healthy European and western food  in clean, comfortable and relaxing design environment. The meats are all halal and  pork-free in order to also cater for the frequent local Muslim customers and neighbors.

Besides the variety of steaks, they also had “something for everyone” including vegetarian dishes, pasta, soups, duck, chicken and fish.

We ordered two dinner sets to try out the food. The sea bass set  (RM39)served with Shellfish bisque as the starter, main dish was grilled sea bass with orange compote and mixed veges and chocolate mousse as dessert. Another set  (RM69)was lamb rack imported from New Zealand with sauteed spinach & parmesan cheese which served together with homemade seafood soup and Manhattan original cheese cake.

Shellfish bisque- This is a classic soup that is wonderfully flavored by the very essence of the shellfish and the taste is fabulous.
Grilled Sea bass with orange compote and mixed veges. This is simple yet delicious dish with great flavors, low in fat. Suitable for any lady who wish to have light meal. The tender sea bass matched perfectly with the sweet sourish taste of orange compote.
Chocolate mousse with orange sorbet, a clever combination!

100% in house made seafood soup- combination of the freshness and sweetness of prawns, mussels and scallops.
New zealand lamb rack with sauteed spinach & parmesan cheese
New Zealand lamb rack with sauteed spinach & Parmesan cheese. The lamb rack was prepared in medium, succulent and tender.
Manhattan original cheese cake. It was smooth and cheesy…I prefer the chocolate mousse.

I did order a glass of red wine. Not really a regular wine drinker, I really wasn’t sure what I was ordering. I simply asked for the recommendation or “surprise me” kind of request. I was really surprised to get a glass of wine perfectly matching the lamb I was ordering. It blends in so well. I was enjoying the wine all the time until I totally forgot to take down the name for our dear readers on MalaysianFoodGuide. My apologies!

Overall, it was a good dining experience in Manhattan Steak House.Nice ambiance with extra ordinary western food. What I personally feel is that Manhattan Steak House has a distinctive taste unlike other Western Food we have been to. It is a class of its own and would be a great pleasure for those who enjoy something new in their western food!

Interesting Facts : Did you know Manhattan Steak House has a Malaysian Heritage? Here is a short except from their write up:

“Manhattan Steak House is a family owned business with Malaysian heritage. Malaysian born Karupanan Devandara left Johor Bahru and palm oil plantations at the age of 16 in 1969 in search of a better life and to satisfy his curiosity of the world. After years of sailing the world’s continents on cargo ships and learning over 8 languages he ended up in Finland as the highly successful restaurant chain owner of Manhattan Steak House. Now daughter Evi Devandara has returned to her father’s native roots with her husband Pepe Halsti to set up their first Asian outlet of Manhattan Steak House in Malaysia by Kelana Jaya lakeside.”
