Tropical fruits - Jambu batu and Jambu madu

Malaysia has been a melting pot for many races, religions and cultures. It too has been a home for some 370 species of edible fruits including exotic ones to suit even the most fussy eater.

Guava is one of the many fruits in Malaysia. The guava fruit is usually eaten fresh, particularly the recently introduced seedless variety. It can also be processed into juice, jam, nectar and canned fruit slices in syrup. It is estimated to contain two to five times the Vitamin C content of fresh orange juice.

Jambu batu (Psidium guajava) Yeah, it’s called ‘batu’ because the it is very hard, like stones, need to wait until ripe, then only you can eat it. Malaysian normally dip it with sour plum sauce.

Another type of guava is called Jambu Madu, this one is much sweeter. The flesh is and sweet like honey (madu means honey).
